Software Development
Software (also known as programs or applications) development basically comes in two forms:
- Custom software specifically matching some or all of your business flow where you own the software and can customise and build upon it as your business grows or changes
- Integration software that joins one or more existing systems for the purposes of avoiding data re-keying or for improved reporting. JDM Partners has the experience and staff to enable you to do achieve whatever you desire
| What Is Systems Integration? |
Refers to the process of combining one or more existing systems in an attempt to centralise information, reduce data duplication, reduce keying errors and improving information flow
| |
| What is your experience in Integration? |
Every member of our team are tertiary qualified and have collectively 30 years experience in systems integration projects.
Our experience in Client businesses include Agricultural, Industrial, Recreational, Transport, and Education sectors.Size varies from large ASX companies (spanning 2 states), entire dioceses (spanning 800 kms) through to small-to-medium entities
Integration projects have ranged from 12 month projects down to several days
| |
| How do I get started? |
A doctor cannot provide a diagnosis on an illness until they have understood the symptoms of the patient. This is no different to an integration project where our experienced analysts will initially review your process (both manual and automated) to better understand the entity to ensure a perfect fit for the Client.
The business analysis process can take several hours to several days or weeks depending on the size, prior knowledge of the Client and complexity of the project being undertaken
If this first critical step is performed correctly, all following steps require much less effort and time. We provide you with a summarised report of our findings and understanding to make sure we are on the right wavelength. Following your approval we then get on to the business of developing a prototype
| |
| What is "prototyping" and how does it affect me? |
Prototyping is providing a basic (but workable) representation of the integration project.
This allows us to develop a working model very quickly and get your involvement early in the project thus ensuring we capture the major parts of the integration process.
Following this we fine-tune the requirements and move the prototype into the final solution.
| |
| What is the usual cost of an integration project? |
Costs vary on the complexity and size of the project. To help you make the decision we always try to see what returns can be made on this investment.
For example, a project may initially cost $5000. However, if this project replaces the need to employ a casual staff the rekey data at a usual annual cost of $3000 per annum you have made a return on your investment in the second year of business of $1000 (not including pay increases and other subsidary costs associated with employing staff)
However, such ROI considerations aren't so simple normally. The integration project may be targeted at improved management reporting or tracking for instance. The ROI is tangible and hard to track from an investment perspective but the long term gains might allow better use of staff or equipment in a way that the business becomes more profitable as a result of more intelligent reporting or workflow.
To make this decision easier, we provide you with a general estimate of cost in the business analysis stage so you can decide if this fits within your budget or allow us to help you decide those aspects of the proposal that are crucial and workable within the budget
| |
| Do I get a warranty with my project? |
| Yes. All projects we provide are supported (for free) with 3 months support and fixes provided there was sufficient input and testing provided by the Client. Even following the 3 month period we normally provide free support and fixes to maintain the healthy relationship |
| |
| Can I start with a small integration project? |
| Yes. Integration projects do not need to be large or costly. We understand you have a limited budget and it takes some time to see any ROI. In most cases, introducing one or two modules at a time targeting a specific area of your entity will produce quicker ROI and becomes more manageable and is our normal recommendation when starting out |

| What is Custom Development? |

If your business is unique or the "off the shelf" software is not a perfect fit for your business you turn to an experienced software-development house to develop specific software for your business
Custom development can range from an entire system (covering your entire business process) through to a small module capturing a small repetitive task.
In many cases our Clients have discovered that it was more affordable to develop their own specific software than purchasing an off-the-shelf product
| |
| What are the advantages of custom development? |
Custom developed software is owned and developed specifically for your business. This means it is an exact fit for your business. With off-the-shelf software you have to work around the system which often leads to additional input that is not necessary for your business.
As your business changes, your software can be tailored to match.
We find most of our clients gain a competitive advantage by providing better reporting or services to their clients.
Custom developed software developed by JDM Partners is supported for life
| |
| Should I develop my own software? |
The first step should be to contact us for a free evaluation of your business. We can assess your needs and if we are aware of an existing product we will suggest this as an alternative to a custom system.
Our first step is to provide you with preliminary analysis to gain an understanding of your business and this will also enable us to provide an estimate for the solution
